RISK MANAGEMENT

PROTECTING YOUR PRODUCT DURING TRANSPORT

  • Proper packaging for your product is essential. Use packaging that is designed for your product. For example, bulk and bagged commodities are highly susceptible to bruising from overhead weight. Use commercial cushioning materials to protect these products.
  • Pre-cool your product to desired temperature to reduce heat. A refrigerated van is designed to maintain temperature, not change it.
  • Set the refrigeration unit controller to the desired temperature and pre-cool the van body to desired temperature to remove residual heat.
  • Turn the refrigeration unit off while loading your product to minimize heat and humidity entering the van body.
  • Load your product quickly and efficiently. Load your boxes in a manner that takes maximum advantage of their inherent strength and leave enough airspace above and around to ensure proper circulation of air to the rear of the van.
  • Minimize door open time as much as possible.
  • Keep your insulated liner clean to prevent contamination of your product. Cleanliness prevents bacterial, chemical, and odor contamination of food product loads.
